Made in the World

The credo of the C.E.O. today is: “You only hire someone — anywhere — if you absolutely have to,” if a smarter machine, robot or computer program is not available.

Thanks to the merger of, and advances in, globalization and the information technology revolution, every boss now has cheaper, easier access to more above-average software, automation, robotics, cheap labor and cheap genius than ever before.

I just posted an article reference which talked about how our education system has failed to advance our society to the levels it needs to be at. At my job I see those people who never received the education that would prevent them from living in poverty for the remainder of their ‘simple’ lives. I know that when customers interact with me they sense that I am not like my co-workers but their first rule of thumb is to treat me in the same way they would treat a person that was retarded. There is something fundamentally flawed with a society that would on purpose impose lifelong poverty on nearly half of it citizens and the rest of the educated people would carry around student loan debt for the rest of their lives without guarantee them a chance at being able to use that education for a higher paying job. Most college drop outs which is at least at Arizona State University 59% will not be able to qualify for high paying jobs but they will be stuck with thousands of government loan dollars. How do you pay back student loan debt when the best job you can get is working in a grocery store? This is where I see the biggest failure of our higher education system, imposing massive loans that equal to over a trillion dollars of national debt now. Does it not make better sense to have a social education system where people have access to higher learning for free?  The way I see it, its pay now out of pocket or pay later when Americans cannot get jobs in America because those jobs go to ‘cheap genius’ in India or China. It would seem that our elected officials are so focused on what used to work in America (and fighting socialism anything), what made America great in the 80s when factory jobs were plentiful and the rich paid a top tax rate of 90%. Now the education system needs to be ‘reengineered’ to compete in a Global market place where American citizens need to be able to get into. A kid that does not graduate high school is going to be a burden on the welfare system most of the time. A person that does not have a college education is now in the same boat, without being able to reach into the deeper pools of higher quality employment, a CEO has to look overseas to find a candidate for a job that pays a livable wage here. That is the problems we are facing as a nation, the middle-class can no longer be the middle if it is not living up to its ‘new’ requirements. If you want to be part of the middle-class in this day and age you need to have the skill set to take those jobs that are being funneled out. This means that we have to re-tool the population to believe that education is the only way to a productive future. I think Americans have this believe that they are smarter than the rest of the world because we are leading power. When all the statistics clearly show Americans are getting dumber every year because our public school system is not on par with the Chinese or most other industrialized places of the world. Here is my evil twist on this subject and final thoughts. What if its actually the big corporations that want the masses to stay dumb? Money in Washington has a lot of influence over how business is done. Wall Street has already proven that it does care about the average people. The corporations need people not to think, to stay stupid, to be ignorant to their control. The smarter the people get, the easier it is for them to look around and say, “we cannot let those mining companies pollute the environment, we cannot let the banks LIBRO us out of our money, and we cannot let the government saddle our young people with 100K worth of student loan debt.” This is just a theory of mine but it has a lot of weight. its not in the best interest of large corporations to have a population that can see right past their advertisement scams and say that is not fair.

……..

10:30am

I woke up out of a troubled sleep this morning with a panic attack. Its two weeks till university starts this fall and I am still stuck in red tape about my student loans. Since June its been one form after another to get me through these hurdles. Last month I repaid a loan I took out when I was 16 years old. I paid for my education out of pocket and believe me it was not easy. I defaulted on my student loans when I was 17 years old because I did not have enough money to live. Since then I have struggled for years to avoid the debt collectors because I did not have high paying jobs. I worked as a computer analyst at the university but within places that took advantage of my computer skills and paid small amounts of money to do very sophisticated jobs.  Now it is of the utmost need that I return to university as full-time graduate student and finish a Ph.D.  I am getting too old to not have doctor in front of my name. Speak of the devil I just got an e-mail to check my student loans, they may have just awarded me. First thing to buy is books and couple of new t-shirts. Three years without a job is long time to go without buying new clothes.

I spent the first hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my student loans and I waited on hold for a very long time to talk to an actual person. They told me that the student loan system is so large it can take 7 months for the system to update with all the correct information. Now that is a lot of people who tried to go to college and for some reason failed at it.

1:30pm

I made ground beef for lunch but I forgot to buy taco shells or cheese before I left the store last night. I was nearly 100 percent positive that I had those things in the fridge. When I opened the door today, it was completely empty. There were not even any left-over from yesterday in there. I biked to work and I saw one of my co-workers at the corner and another one on the way to work. It only makes sense that the people who work in grocery stores live close by.

Once I got to work it was miserable in the parking lot and there were no managers scheduled to work before 5pm. This made the day worse because without management the store turned into Lord of the Flies. All the flies had no idea what to do and the only person with responsibility duties seemed lost, I had to keep telling her who could do what. Almost all the employees have complained about the lack of experience the new administrator has, she just seems out of focus in the store. I for one did not take today too seriously because its not a serious job. I just tried to chime in with a useful remark when it was necessary. You cannot get the teenagers to act like adults and the adults were acting like teenagers. It was like being at freak show and I was the ring master for the events. When I finally left it seemed as if it were time to pull the fire alarm and alleviate the calamity within.

6pm

I got home and talked to my roommate about work and he told me it was no better for him. He is also surrounded by idiots. He asked one of his employees to fix a leaky roof and the guy but large bucket where the hole was, when the bucket filled up, it came crashing through the second layer of the roof. Why do we have so many idiots in society?
