Epic Retail Failure
Today I fucked up royally at the grocery store by saying things that have taken hours to sink into me. The whole situation started with me not liking Jane the new 16 year bagger girl. I don’t know exactly what it is about her that I hate or its just a lot of obvious things (she is poor white trash). She started spreading rumors that I was sexually harassing her, when in fact, I went out of my way to avoid her. Anyhow, she is a total bitch and I had been ignoring her since she started working there. Today I avoided her as much as possible and when she spoke to me I told her, “to please shut the hell up.” A few minutes later my cashiers around me gave me the looks of ‘I cannot believe he said that’ and disapproval was in the air. I came back in and Jane the cashier yelled across the lanes to me, “why don’t you like her?’ “She is dumb!” I think the whole store gasped at once and I felt vindicated by my answer. Anyhow, two hours later, I was sitting in the manager’s office trying to explain my situation to them. They did not take my side but I created a context by which the managers turned on each other. I called them good cop and bad cop. And they both realized that the new manager is a much more approachable person and people like him a lot better. When I left the office I felt like a day time television psychologist breaking down the events and how they could do better as managers.
Anyhow, all the cashiers hate me but the girls in the bakery gave me high-fives because they agree with me. There are some pretty stupid people working in retail and we have become a society of politically correct ass holes too caring of what other think.
